J.Wilkinson 1st -ten- amateur bouts 1976 -77 (Germany) -AMATEUR RECORD- 1.vs Larry Rhodes (@french commando school No.4 /Briesach)W2 2.vs Lorenzo Alston (Mainz Germany, Army BKS. ch) 139 lb W3 3.vs James Dancy, at Mainz 1/2 f western region v corp, rsc 3 4.vs Allen Woodson, at Mainz western reg. novice title, WKo 3 ---------------------------------------------------------- 5.vs Marshall Gaskin, at Frankfurt (Germany) v corp 1/2 f W ret.1 (1:13) 6.vs William (Ram) Bennett, Frankfurt v corp - final W Ko 1 (0:47) -turned "Open"- 7.vs Leonard Dunn, at KirchGoens v corp -title- WKo1 (0:18) -rated boxer united states army/only time ever "Ko'd" in aprox 50 bout career-(i have him in my archives, coming back quite classically, after this meeting. we might have fought again, except, my coach, "Robbie" Robinson had rotated back to the States) 8.vs Morris Eason (native of Cleveland, Ohio. boxer later lost "very close" to No 1 Nationally rated Henry Hughes - also of Ohio-**139 lbs** which "prompted" him to turn pro) USAREUR 1/4 f (Hardest match of my career i mean "like four bouts in one", -smile-). "Stars and Stripes" called this fight "a Pier Five brawl". Eason represented 7 Corp. L decision 9.vs Klaus Herman (only time in my life -amateur- I did not train beforehand) -156 lb contest- i got "trapped" into competing. Near Bonn, Germany, with "Box Club BK" (Still "Active" Club out of Bad Krueznach, Germany Helmut Graf -Club President). I decked Klaus r. 3 but lost decision. 10.vs Peter Schmidt, at Bad Krueznach *one of the few times a boxer spotted me the weight diference. We met at 147 lbs. bout was a "draw" (If I was judgeing it, Peter would of been the sure winner!).Note:Morris Eason can be seen on YouTube in an aprox 6 min video "My Story" - a Christian Testimonial. See that at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYSuzmsP1m4 For my amateur record, counting -a- walkover Connecticut State title win, i have a 40 bouts career ending in early 1988 & then i turned pro that Autumn vs Otis ex-amateur foe, John Scully(just back from U.S. Olympic Trials/middlewt div. winning -Bronze- after going 1-1 with Darrin Allen, the former "amateur" world champion;I was age 32, when i turned pro. I ENJOY THE BOXING/ -always- but, no doubt, i took it at a -hooby- level, "all-the-years". I didn't make money at -boxing-. The sport will cost its participants if you go at it, from a "hobby" point of view -that is, if you're serious, i mean!-) My "famous team mates" were Tacoma, Wa. Jerry (Red) Wiles and Beckley, W. Va. Robert Naper -feather and welterwts respectively. Donald Schumpert of St Louis ("semi-famous")Light Middle; Roy Armour (106 lbs. -twice- competed with Fernando Labrador, rated) of Youngstown, Ohio; Clearence Powell, our Lightweight, Doug Singleton our Heavyweight (Detroit, Mi) amd our "outside Contender" Paul "Sugar Bear" Williams a Heavyweight trimmed down to Light Hvy. (-he won some fights-). Later, -really hugh star- Emilio Amantine, middleweight joined our team (known as the "Panama Canal Kid"). In USAREUR at the time there were -many name boxers- but the two "biggest of the big" were welterwt. Ed Green (Our Naper lost two decisions to him) and featherwt. Juan Dominguez (he took a "stoppage" against Jerry). Each of these guys were up in the "80 bouts range" with Green being undefeated at the time and Juan D. just with a single loss (against legend, Davey Lee Armstrong - a contest you could of "flipped a coin" on; "Red" told me he had seen the fight back on the West Coast). Both have international legend, too, of course. As does Emilio Amantine.
