Boxing with Anyone Else Could Be a Painful Experience

When it comes to boxing clubs there are a lot of choices out there. Make sure you do your homework and choose the right gym for the right reasons. Just because a boxing club has a lot of great equipment, or what appears to be a group of experienced fighters, doesn't necessarily make it the right choice for you.

The first thing you need to do is determine why you want to box. Once you do that then choosing the right gym is easy. There are a couple of very basic categories that you can find youself falling into. Here are just some of your choices:

  • You want to start boxing to get in shape, try something new, and most of all...have fun
  • You want to start boxing so that you can defend yourself
  • You want to start boxing so that you can compete in the amateur boxing ranks
  • You want to start boxing so that you can become a pro-boxer

Any and all of the choices are good ones, and with each reason you need to make sure that the boxing school your thinking about has what you need.

Do you want to start boxing to get in shape, try something new, and most of all... have fun?

You're not alone! This is the most common reason that people take up the sport of boxing. Funny thing is that most people who fall into this category find themselves feeling intimidated by the thought of trying out a boxing class, especially when they show up to the gym and they see what appears to be a ton of experienced boxers hitting the bags. Fact is...you shouldn't worry about that at all. Everyone starts out feeling uncoordinated and clumsy. At Grant Brothers Boxing we know exactly how you feel and every step possible will be taken to make sure you feel comfortable.

Another important thing to mention is that if you think you're too out of shape to start...just remember...it's our job to help you get into shape. Don't feel like you have to get into shape first before you can come in and try it out. The Pro's at Grant Brothers Boxing will get you where you want to go...at your pace...every step of the way!

By the way...if you think you're too old to try boxing...think again!
There are a ton of people who have considered themselves over the hill who have taken up boxing and its given them a new passion for life.

When trying to choose the right boxing gym for you, make sure the gym has ample space, lots of equipment, and multiple coaches. These three points will be especially important to anyone who is doing it for the first time. By having enough space you'll find it less intimidating to come in and try it out. When it comes to the equipment...if there's plenty of equipment to go around, especially heavy bags, then you won't feel like you're getting in the way. Lastly, there's nothing worse then showing up to learn boxing and no one is there to coach you.

At Grant Brothers Boxing we invite you to come in and try it out. Put us to the test! You'll find that we're in a warehouse with plenty of space, we've got a full set of weight equipment and a multitude of bags to go around, and most importantly, we've got a team of experienced coaches to help with every step of the way.

Do you want to start boxing so that you can defend yourself?

The first thing that you need to realize is that boxing is first and foremost a sport. As such there are rules that a respectable boxing gym should have concerning using boxing on the streets. There isn't a GOOD coach out there that would teach you to box so that you can become a street fighter.

From a self-defense stand point, boxing can give anyone some fundamental skills which could save them from being taken advantage of. The most important attribute that boxing will give someone is CONFIDENCE. With confidence as a weapon in your back pocket, chances are you won't find yourself falling into the victim categorey to begin with. You'll find that the confidence that boxing gives you will not make you look like a likely target for any predators out there.

Some of the other benefits that boxing will give you, which can help you in a self-defense application are: strength, power, speed, muscular endurance, and balance.

Do you want to start boxing so that you can compete in the amateur boxing ranks?

Competing in amateur boxing is an exciting experience, especially for people with the competitive spirit. Once you take the idea of boxing, which is considered by many to be the ultimate individual sport, and you apply your own competitive energy to it...the possibilities are endless.

The nice thing about amateur boxing is that when it comes to competing in this sport, most of the major expenses related to travel and accomodations, are usually covered. In fact, if you get good enough, you can get sponsorship from Sports Canada, which would give you an annual training allowance. Depending on how high you rank that training allowance becomes quite significant.

If you're interested in competing in amateur boxing, make sure you take a close look at the coaching staff of the gym that your thinking about. You need to make sure that the coaches have all the right qualifications to get you where you want to go. You also want to make sure that the boxing school you're thinking about is prepared to go to competitions with you, and to do it often. The key to success in amateur boxing is making sure you get enough experience. The only way to do that is to compete.

At Grant Brothers Boxing you'll find that the coaching staff is second to none. In fact, there is a coach that is dedicated specificially to the success of the amateur boxing athletes. This ensures that the amateur atheletes will get the attention they need both in the gym and at the competitions.
